0xA

0xA is a band not made out of people, but objects and patches. Snippets of codes that bleeps and blinks are added and modified in the online repository, where it all began. As the repository grew, 0xA evolves with it. Aymeric Mansoux, Chun Lee and Olivier Laruelle are the current active contributors. They have performed 0xA across Europe, North America and Asia in places like gallery, clubs and festivals.

expr~

expr~ is the first music release of 0xA, consists of retro sounding tracks made almost entirely with the [expr~] object in Pure Data. No tweaking of number boxes and sliders, no clever generative algorithms, just switch the audio on and listen.

Sayagata

http://sonicvariable.goto10.org/pix/img/sayagata.svgI first came across this pattern some time ago while browsing vaerious tattoo designs, most notably by artist Xed Lehead. It, in fact, belongs to a category of Japanese Buddhism decorative art: Kirikane. Here I tried to create it with Python in SVG format.

To get the joining points where line segments meet, a series of concentric circles are made, which represents the length/radius of the points to the center. To get the actual points on each of the circles, the necessary phase shift(from 0 degree) is calculated using right-angled triangle (hypotenuse side being the radius). To tile this motif, simple flip the orientation of the swastika.

Scanner lamp

So, as I discovered my scanner is no longer functional, and throwing the entire thing away seems a bit of a waste, I took it apart. Other then salvaging the stepper motor, as expected, the actual lamp had provided a much more instant fun!
To make this work, the driver/inverter chip also needs to be removed. Luckly, this scanner is powered by a AC adapter (24V/1.4A), All I had to to to power up the lamp is cut the end bit off from the adapter, so that it can be soldered onto the driver chip. Of course, it would be nice to put it in a nicer box and add a switch to it, or perhaps making a strobe light out of it with a few other chips…
